Home Depot Foundation committed to investing $400 million in grants from 2007-2017. The company's Home Depot Foundation's Affordable Housing Built Responsibly program invests more than $100,000 annually in nonprofit organizations whose missions' are to support the production and preservation of affordable, efficient, and healthy housing.
Kresege Foundation's Green Building Initiative - awards planning grants ranging from $50,000 to $100,000 to organizations to support the integrated design process for renovation projects, historic preservation projects, new construction projects designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at the Platinum level from the U.S. Green Building Council, and new construction projects designed to be net-zero energy efficient (the facility produces as much energy as it consumes each year).
Oak Hill Fund's Environmentally Sustainable Affordable (ESAD) - program supports initiatives in non-profits that primarily focus on the incorporation of the principles of sustainability in the design and construction of affordable residential housing.
U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program is a third-party certification program and benchmarking system for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. The LEED for Homes Rating System was originally designed for single family and low rise multi-family residential development, but has now been expanded to address mid-rise projects (4-6 stories) and is being expanded to address issues relevant to affordable multifamily housing. Achieving a specified LEED certification is often used by agencies as part of their funding criteria.
